Experience of traveling alone to city of Rajputana's through city of Gandhiji's abode- Part 2

Udaipur- city of Asian Venice

I reached Udaipur in the morning 4.30 a.m. I quickly searched internet for a place to stay even though auto drivers were murmuring like bee line. I opened the website - https://www.booking.com/ and found a very nice hostel - "Bunkyard" and I got bed in "REGGAE" for INR 300 per day inclusive of all taxes. Well, hostel was near to city palace and just 5 mins walk from Jagdish temple and Bagore Ki Havelli.

When I woke, it was all amusement, cheer and happiness blowing around me. People were enjoying the ambiance and planning their days ahead after all it was December month when corporate allow them to breathe a bit. I finally realized I am on holiday! A long needed one. I found that bed will be vacated around 11 so I thought to take a view of hostel till then and prepare my small itinerary. I realized that they had put up flags of several nations up-down which many of foreign guest were liking.

I found all over the walls there were spaghetti which will lit up the heart and make you smile. I peeked outside the hall and I don’t think I had ever seen such a nice view in my life. A white marble made Castle standing in the middle of lake with tiny mountain (hills) overhead kissing the horizon. I went up the kitchen which was small but amazingly maintained and neat. In the evening, I had my dinner there and cheese cottage vegetable mix was a delight for me. I went down and I saw that front desk is nicely maintained with all the details a tourist need. They are very happy to inform you the places to visit, food, market, specialty and they also organize tours based on your preference at request at reasonable price. I all I can say it was just what I wanted- beginning of nice holiday and I had it.

I gathered all the information and took bike on rent from hostel for Rs. 500 per day with petrol on me and started for the day. I started passing through the streets lined up with handcraft stores, mini painting gallery’s lined up all around with people in joyful mood. Within 2 minutes I reached the City palace but then I realized better I go other places as it will take time inside and hiring the bike will be wasteful as I can come there tomorrow.

I switched the self-start and was off to my next destination- Shilpagram- one of the beautifully maintained and planned handicraft market. One will find place to eat the local cuisine side by side enjoying the local dance, shops lined up showcasing local artwork, artists and painters displaying their work. I found that there are several dance forms which are practised in the Rajputana and that’s precisely makes Incredible India!

I found out that the entry fees was merely Rs. 40 whereas for watching similar delight at Chowki Dhani I would have needed to cough out INR 900. At the entrance, there was one troupe performing the tribal dance and nearby camels and elephant rides were available for small price of INR 30-60.

Oh ghost! I almost forgot to tell you what happened when I was on way to the Shilpagram. I was passing through small overbridge of a lake and there I saw an old gentle man passing with his camel. He must be more than 70 year old which shoulder and back bent forward, reminded me of my great grandmother. I parked my bike in a corner at the end of the bridge and I ran towards him for a camel ride. He happily obliged me without any expectation. I paid him INR 200 for his camel’s feed as I did not want to hurt his feeling by paying him for his generosity. He was so patient and calm, which befitted such beautiful ambience all around Udaipur.

At shilpagram, I realized it’s almost a glimpse of several villages which had been modelled for a tourist to feel the India. Govt had also organized an event in that week and had tried to boost the tourism. I saw small huts lining up a lane and to its opposite were shops selling handicraft work. On the other lace, one can see a group of people enjoying their hookah and laughing together. At every corner, there were dance troupes performing their specialities which was completely different from other troupes. It took almost 3 hours for me to take one round but it was more than worth it.

I bid adieu to Shilpagram and kicked in my active towards Sajjangarh Fort. I passed through Fatehsagar lake. I couldn’t believe India is so beautiful yet Indian travel abroad. At the lake front, several small eateries selling pav bhaji, khulad wali chai, pizza, burger, chole bhatore are lined up offering at minimal cost. I ate pav bhajji and malai rabri and I realy relished its taste.

I reached fort where I got to know I had just missed the annual bird festival by a day (generally conducted in December month) and there was wildlife sanctuary around it. Fort looks amazingly beautiful from the other parts of the city and on reaching there I got to know first-hand experience of my ancestor’s architecture.

At the corner of the entrance, one will find an open restaurant where troupes of monkey play beside people enjoying the scenery. Mountains running parallel to each other can be seen from here. On the other side of the fort, I could easily see the entire city. City was beautifully constructed without giving any impression that it was not unplanned city rather a planned one. People are very careful about their surroundings and environment and do not delve deep in greed.
When I entered the fort I saw a splendid 2 storey landscape zooming the zenith of cloud. Fort was built with marble, with windows, gates all around it and nicely carved local sculptures. Top of the fort was a round arch with floral design at the base of it. Behind the fort, sight of tiny mountains enthralled me and I was left mesmerised. Inside the fort, there were several windows depicting local architecture pattern. At the time of leaving the fort, I saw 2 young kids jumping at the gate and I felt it’s like I am seeing a younger self in them which I could not resist to capture.

While exiting the fort, I noted the view of lake from top which was pure and serene and nothing else. Small building of white marble at the middle of lake surrounded by the blue water which dominated its landscape of the building not the concrete.

I reached the Sajjangarh wildlife sanctuary. I noted from google that this sanctuary has distinction of  hosting few birds which are not found anywhere in Indi. I could not walk more than half a km but I got a glimpse of what it beholds inside. I got few clicks of birds chirping around. From the sanctuary, fort looked so small. I waited for half an hour for birds to come at still position so I could capture them.

It was late evening and I thought of making my way back to hostel. I passed through lake pichkola where buildings in lake were glittering and shinning like star in sky surrounded by blue water. It was nothing but mesmerizing for the eyes. On my way I learnt that Karni Mata temple is nearby where white mouse are kept. I took a turn of bike towards the temple. I saw that temple was at least 300 steps up. I parked my bike and started scaling the ladders. On reaching there I was laughing- there was rope tram available. I went directly inside the temple and prayed. I saw white mouse kept there. Mouse were kept very nicely, fed always and clean environment. It was not turn to come down again 300 steps. I looked on the lake front and heaved a sigh of relief that it was walking down. I saw the Sajjangarh Fort glittering like a tiny star in the air and buildings in middle of lakes nothing but a moon in sky. Only surrounding they shared were blue water and blue sky.

I got call from hostel to return the bike as it was time. I hurried myself way back to hostel. I again traversed through lake pichkola. Never mind, Udaipur is small city and Lake Pichkola and Lake Fatehsagar are same just opposite fronts.

I reached hostel and returned the bike with an apologies for getting late. People at hostel were very nice who readily accepted the apologies. I headed towards the bed and I went straight to rest. It was 7.30 in evening, I hear a tune of Rajasthan song and dance playing out nearby. I ran to the window on the hall and I realized it was next door. I walked down and enquired at the entry where people informed me it’s Bagore ki Haweli. I ran towards the Haveli to buy a ticket to entrance but to my dismay it was full not only for today but also for tomorrow. I tried a bit but I realized that it’s not gonna work. I went back and sat near the window of hall to enjoy it. Song was pretty beautiful and can be clearly heard but I could not enjoy the dance. In another hour, concert was over and I was starving.

I went to terrace kitchen and I asked for menu. From menu, I chose Paneer curry and roti and it was really beautiful meal at low cost. I sat there, gossiped with the cook, manager and others. I liked the simplicity and straightforwardness of people. It was 11 pm and time to sleep.

Day 2-

I was late, I got up at 11 am. I hurriedly took off to city palace. Palace has entry fees of INR 200 appx. but parking facility is bit costly. At the entrance, I saw two small guns with 3 gates overhanging lamp is enthralling. Palace is huge and need at least 4-5 hours to enjoy it completely. Way to Mann Mandir is also through the Palace.

I entered through the gate where a huge auspicious Torana was overhanging. I recalled in my community, at the time of marriage, groom has to perform a ritual on similar Torana which of course is miniature version. Beside the Torana, a huge sculpture of god Sun has been engraved. Even the lamp overhanging the main entry to Palace was antique. Management and security of Palace was quite extraordinary. On the right side to entry, there is display of all arms and armouries from the time of King Maharana Pratap to last king. Portraits on the wall depicts the war scenes highlighting the glory of Kingdom of Mewar (ancient name). From top floor, I could see the entire city at one go and it was nothing but amazing.

I entered one way and exited another way to find more items on display. Items ranging from antique chair, table, fan, artwork to arms armouries were at display. I could imagine the glory of my ancestors.

Window panes were adorned with the Zali of different patterns (mosaic) and could be seen all around the palace. I could view the scenes around the fort easily and can capture them. At one corner, one person at charge of INR 20 showing all the high places of the city. I saw Sajjangarh fort, Mann Mandir from it quite clearly.

All the lakes, forts, city, town and buildings can be seen and identified easily. It reminded me how the Sentry at that time easily kept a watchful eyes on the town. One such scene captured my eyes where a pink coloured buildings were lining the lake front and mountains overlooking them. It was scenic beauty and nothing else. Across the hills, one can see easily buildings there and identify them.

It was 4’o clock in the evening I made my way out of the Palace towards the Jagdish temple. It was serene and simple temple constructed on elevated land. Passed through the city towards bus stand and city as other day was glittering in light, red orangish sort of. With this I signed off to Jaipur.

Walking down old lane

Usi purani rah pe nikal para hun...
Nanhe nanhe hathon se mamta ko Chune chala hun...
Baap ki god pe uchhal pada hun...
Dada dadi ki lori ko yaad kar Raha hun...
Usi purani rah pe chal para hun...

Bilakhte bilakhte maa ki aur daud pada hun...
Rote rote kissa byan kar chala hun...
Pag uthate hue maa ki aankhon ki chamak dekh raha hun...
School ke pehle din ko yaad kar Raha hun...
Usi purani rah par chal para hun...

Jeevan ke pehle dost ki talash kar raha hun..
School ke pehle report card ko Nihar Raha hun...
Melody chocolate ki swaad Ko chatakh Raha hun...
Usi purani rah par nikal para hun...

Bachpan ko yaad karte karte aaj ko bhul gaya hun...
Purane sikkon se bite hue kal ki chamak dhundh Raha hun ....
Bite hue pal mein Bachpan dhundh raha hun...
Usi purani rah par nikal para hun... Nikal para hun...

Experience of traveling alone to city of Rajputana's through city of Gandhiji's abode- Part 1

Well people, I planned this trip in the month of July 2017 and plan was to travel for 15 days through the entire Rajasthan relishing the culture, markets, foods, dresses and forts. However, last minute change left me with only 5 days to relish the Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Jaipur.

Here goes the journey-

I began at 4.20 am on 24 January 2017 from Koramangala to catch my flight. Luckily, I got my share cab for 400 bucks only and I dropped plan to catch city bust shuttle. I reached flight 2 hours before departure and to my surprise, ticket was in business class with lounge pass attached to it. I went to lounge and slept there until 6 am. Flight was at 6.40 am so I thought it's totally cool to reach by 6.20 am, a 20 minute before departure. I went to relieve myself and reached at counter by 6.21 am. Looks like, my luck ran out, they didn't allow me to board the flight as gate was closed. I requested them it's always 20 minutes before time but Go Air said they close 25 minutes before time. I was little upset but then I said, 'fine, it's okay'. They changed my flight to evening one at no cost and gave me another lounge pass. I enjoyed lounge whole day until 7.00 pm.

Ahmedabad landing-

I landed in Ahmedabad around 9.45 pm and got an auto to drop me in the city. Driver helped me search a hotel room. I went around the city to find a nice cozy room but hotels in Ahmedabad is really costly. Then I thought, I have to just spend a night so I went for an economy room that cost me Rs. 900 but it was not at all good but somehow I spent the night after all I was too tired to find more.

I spent the night, go up around 9.30 am next day, and checked out the hotel. I started slowly down the streets to find some good restaurant to have breakfast. On 10 mins walking, I realized neighborhood near hotel was not good so I decided to visit ' Teen Darwaza" in the city and there to eat.

I took an auto, which cost me Rs. 20 to reach there. To my surprise, such a nice place for tourist attraction was damn dirty and no signs of maintenance. I took glance the Gate's and then I decided to leave the place. I took an auto to go to ' Sabarmati River Front' for Rs. 200. On way, I bargained with auto wala and he agreed for entire day city tour for Rs. 900 and I happily agreed for that. I made a small calculation and I realized that I ending up paying just Rs. 200 for convenience of not waiting for city buses or getting harassed from more auto wala's.

I started my quest to heritage watching enthusiastically. First in my Ahmedabad, itinery was Sabarmati riverfront. View was amazing so was serenity. Having reached there, found many people had come there for weekend relaxation and lovebirds were capturing selfies.

Front was very clean with fresh air breezing over my face. I stayed there for half an hour walking on the front side, seeing the beauty of architecture, and experiencing serenity. I embarked my journey to Adalaj Ki baory. A giant step well constructed with such marvelous architecture around it, full of scriptures on the walls with places to stand and sit. I walked down the well and found a good amount of water was available. On seeing up to the top, I realized it is like I am standing at ground floor of three storey ancient building. Alas, place was bereft of maintenance and tourist control measures. After spending an hour, we started again towards the most talked on place of Gujarat- Gandhi Ashram.

It took not more than 20 minutes to reach there. On entrance, there was a portrait of Gandhiji with black background. Picture portrayed the serenity and cleanliness, after all picture was simple but beautiful.

Hall was full of the events from the past detailing about ashram, its histories, inmates stayed there and statements of great leaders. What was most important was the display of Gandhiji’s ideal as detailed by Gandhiji himself. Once could really visit the ashram only to feel motivated and to find ideals to live the life. Inside the ashram, I found on display items required by Gandhiji from drinking water, eating plates, eyeglasses to big water jugs among others.

There was special room where various charkhas were on display including the raw material and finished goods. In one corner, one would found the charkha, which was operated by Gandhiji himself. Spending time in this Ashram paid me more than what I spent and I realized life is bigger than myself. After spending considerable time, I started my journey to my next destination- Akshardham.

On the way, we stopped our auto to feed ourselves. We found a good Punjabi Dhaba where one can find luxury food at nominal price. I especially ordered for Kutchi Khichdi but it was not to my taste. It took 400 rupees appx. to feed two hungry person only.

We started traversing through Gandhinagar, I felt as if this part does not belong to Ahmedabad at all, everywhere street light are placed with roads clean and neat and criss crossing each other at 90 degrees. After all, this is a sit of legislature and chief minister, supposed to be this way.

On reaching Akshardham, we got to know that that was Monday and on Monday, Akshardham remains close. To my bad luck, I had no choice but to return disappointedly. It was already evening time; I asked auto wala to take me to Law Garden market to buy chaniya choli for my sisters.

Market was very traditional with shops lining both sides of the narrow street. Shoppers ready to take on the sellers and to bargain as much as they can. I visited 2-3 shops to just understand how economics work in that market. I realized that they are selling items at 4 times the prices and you can even bargain further. I proceeded to next shop and identified a nice chaniya choli for my sister blue color one. I bargained for 1/4 of the quoted price (2500) and settled the matter for 1100 rupees. I felt it was win-win for both of me and shop owner. I felt little guilty when shop owner told me that with chaniya choli, he is not giving me dupatta and I need to buy at next shop for Rs 400. I did not proceed to buy dupatta and left the matter to be decided by sister herself. It was 6'o clock in the evening and still good 4 hours to go for my bus.

Auto wala took me to Kankaria Lake where annual festival was getting inaugurated. There was tight security measure and on getting inside I realized, getting in was easy but getting out is a nightmare after all exit gate was 500 metre away. Lake was clean with cool breeze blowing around. One could spend a great time there. I somehow managed to come out through exit gate but I realized I need to go back to same gate through which I had entered because auto is there and he cannot come due to one-way restriction.

I walked slowly to reach there and boarded it. Lucky enough, in next 10 minutes, CM was to visit the lake to inaugurate it. We left the place without facing much traffic. Auto dropped me to bus stand. There I ate nice pav-bhaji in dinner and boarded the bus to Udaipur.

I cannot express story 1

I cannot express....

Story 1
Part 1

Their eyes made a contact. Her eyes were glittering and shine was in his eyes. She shyied and lowered her eyes. He kept looking at her and she in guise of looking at other place was seeing him...

Class breaks-
Kunal- hiii...
She- hiii (smiles)
Kunal- you look so dull... Why? ( To anger her)
She: lol... You are mad... All my friends call me dazzling girl...
Kunal- who all friends?
She- my boy friend.. who else?
Kunal- ohk...bye.. see you later..

Kunal rushes out with disappointment ... She was all laughing...

Evening-
She- hello... Wasup?
Kunal- hello...
She- why did you runaway that time?
Kunal- got some urgent work...
She: hhahhhahaa
Kunal: what happened?
She- nothing.. just wanted to tell you... I have no boyfriend... I was lieing...

She says bye and leave ... Kunal was kept wondering why she did to him?

She turned back and dropped a piece of paper and left a smile...

Kunal picked that paper and jumped in air with hifi..

After 2 hours-

She gets a call...
Kunal- hi... It's me...
She- who me? ( She knew it's him and she was getting ready for her first date)
Kunal- I thought to catch up with you
She- for what?
Kunal- you know there is place in city?
She- which place?(smiling)
Kunal- that place you don't know?
She- which place?
Kunal- let's meet me in evening then we will go that place
She- no no...I can't come...
Kunal- come for an hour's... Then you will see that place...
She- okay... See you in an hour near college only... Bye...

Part 2

Kunal reaches the venue and was waiting patiently. He was looking cool in purple pant with glasses on. He see her getting down from her BMW and smiles. He greets her with a smile.

She- hello!
He- hii! Looking different!
She- different..hmmm..
She- where are you taking me?
He- it's surprise...
She- okayyy...
He- lets walk...
She- hmmm

She inquisitively ask her again about the place and he make her more impatient saying we are going.. it's about 5 mins walk from here.

She impatiently nudges him to walk faster and they both reach a classical place with fine music, food and wine. She was new to the city of shimla and she was fond of music and wine. She smiles and thanks him.

He open the door for her like a gentleman...she wanted him to hold her hand and walk but Kunal was little shy.

He point her to a corner seat. He pulls chair for her and she thanks him again.

He- did you like this place?
She- yeah.. it's nice place
He- hmmm ...I am happy you liked it..
She- you looking cool in glasses
He- hahahhh... Thanks
She- laughs loudly
He- what happen? You laughing on me!
She- no no...she again bursts in laughter
He- huh! Tell na what happen?
She- you got Cool sense of color- purple ...hahahhh
He- hahaha... I like this color
She- it's okay... I will change you..
He- hmm

They keep going on their discussion and life seems to be moving for Kunal and Namisha (she)...

Part 3
